Smash the Silence 2026

In 2022, Caroline Nava’s father, Robert, suffered a major stroke that changed her family’s life overnight. He went from living a highly active lifestyle to spending 4–6 hours a day in therapy, relearning how to walk, eat, and perform everyday tasks. Witnessing the physical, emotional, and financial toll of stroke recovery gave Caroline a firsthand understanding of the gaps in support that many families face.
In 2024, she turned that experience into action by founding Smash the Silence, a charity padel tournament dedicated to raising awareness and funding for stroke recovery.
Now in its third year, the event has grown into a powerful community movement. The 2026 tournament raised over $75,000 for The Stroke Foundation, which will provide grants for stroke survivors' physical, speech, and occupational therapy. What began as a deeply personal initiative has expanded into what is now a Robinson Family Foundation initiative.
This year’s event brought together athletes, supporters, and community leaders — including members of the Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat— all rallying behind the shared mission to “Smash the Silence” surrounding heart disease and stroke.
Beyond the competition on the courts, the tournament serves as a platform to highlight the importance of rehabilitation access, early intervention, and long-term therapy support. Each year, attendance and impact continue to grow, reflecting a community committed to ensuring that no stroke survivor has to navigate recovery alone.
From one family’s experience in 2022 to a movement that has raised over $200,000 in just three years, Smash the Silence stands as a testament to resilience, advocacy, and the power of community coming together for a cause.
